John G. “Jack” Wisnoski, Jr.
Age 88, of Penn Hills, born January 17, 1930, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2018.
Son of the late John and Marie Colette (Petersheim) Wisnoski; beloved husband of Elinor Wisnoski of 59 years; dedicated and caring father of Marie (Tom) Berg, Joyce (Jeff) O’Neill, David (Iris) Wisnoski and John (Paige) Wisnoski; cherished grandfather of Jennifer, Jeffrey, Sean, Theresa, Gwen and Claire; brother of the late Richard (Catherine) and David Wisnoski.
Jack’s early life challenges with degenerative eye disorder (Keratoconus) pioneered medical advancements starting with his first surgery by Dr. Raymond Castroviejo in 1945 which was the foundation to the world-wide adoption of Cornea Transplantation.
Jack continued with more eye surgeries and became involved with the establishment of the Medical Eye Bank of Western Pennsylvania which led to him becoming the Chairman of the Board for the Medical Eye Bank in 1992.
He worked as an automobile mechanic for Cochran Pontiac for 20 years and then became a financial planner for his last working years.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Jack’s life on Sunday November 11, 2018. at the William F. Gross Funeral Home, 11735 Frankstown Road (at Rodi Rd.) Pittsburgh, PA 15235 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St Susanna Church, 200 Stotler Road, Pgh. 15235 Monday, 10 a.m. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer a memorial donation in Jack’s name to be made to the Eye and Ear Foundation 203 Lothrop Street Ste. 251 Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
