Genevieve “Jenny” Baer
Genevieve “Jenny” (Makatura) Baer, age 83, of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 24, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Charles Baer; eldest daughter of the late Clarence and Genevieve Makatura; loving mother of Michael (Sandy) Baer and Michelle (Robert) LaCivita; dedicated “Meem” of grandchildren Jennifer (Robert) Turner, Kristin (Josh) Mathew, and Bryan LaCivita, and great-grandchildren Jak Turner and Bret Turner; sister of Dorothy (the late Walt) Jaworski, Margaret (the late John) Cangelier, and Sandra (Louis) Faverio. She will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jenny worked in the floral industry for many years, most recently retiring from Johnston the Florist. She enjoyed relaxing in the sun with a good book, baking her famous nut rolls, and singing, humming, or whistling a tune close to her heart. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family; her children and grandchildren were her whole world. Jenny lived her life with dignity and strength even after facing adversity, and she could always bring a smile to those around her.
Family and friends will be received at William F. Gross Funeral Home at 11735 Frankstown Road (at Rodi Road) in Penn Hills on Wednesday, December 30, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will directly follow at Saint Susanna Church at 12:00 p.m. We will be following COVID-19 state guidelines.
