Donald E. "Moxie” Worthen, Sr.

Age 84, resident of Penn Hills since 1986,Originally of Waterville, ME, passed away Saturday March 7, 2020. Beloved husband of Beverly; loving father of Lorri Waldron, Amanda Mitchell, Jeffrey Worthen and the late Donald Worthen, Jr. and Edwin Worthen; stepfather of Melinda Sarle, Timothy Baker and Elizabeth Baker; also survived by 17 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren; brother of the late Judy Currier.

A memorial service will be held at 11a.m. Friday, March 13, 2020 at Mt. Hope Community Church, 12106 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills, 15235. Arrangements by William F. Gross Funeral Home Ltd.

 

 

John M. "Jack" Dunn

Age 84, of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully, on Friday, February 28, 2020.  Beloved husband of 60 years to Theresa M. Dunn (Matozzo); dear father of daughters, Beth Ann Pischke and Kathleen (Dino) DeIuliis and sons, Michael (Tiffany) and Thomas (Carolyn); brother of the late Mimi Hollenback; proud grandfather to Michael, Andrew, Dillon, Dawson, Zachary, Taylor, Tucker and Tanner; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Jack received his BS in Economics from Villanova University in 1957.  He worked at US Steel as an Operations Manager for over 40 years.

Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Monday, March 9, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at William F. Gross Funeral Home Ltd., 11735 Frankstown Road (at Rodi Rd.), Penn Hills, PA  15235.  Funeral prayers Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bartholomew Church, 111 Erhardt Dr, Penn Hills PA.  at 10 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice House, 5090 Dunn Street, Ft Pierce, FL 34981 or the charity of your choice.

 

 

Harry L. Bauer

Age 92, of Penn Hills, passed away comfortably in his own home Thursday, February 20, 2020. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Marguerite (Mame); parents Harry I. Bauer and Flora Kurtz Bauer along with sister Patricia Bauer Eyman. He is survived by his daughters; Cynthia (the late Richard) Paul and Maury (the late James) Atherton; son; Harry C. (Roberta) Bauer; grandsons; Rush R. (Annie) Paul, Harry R. (Jessica) Bauer, and Richard R. Bauer; great grandchildren; Logan Paul, Greta Bauer and Vivian Bauer; as well as best friend; Barbara Harger.

Harry graduated from Etna High School in 1945, served in the US Army from 1950-52 and retired from the Penn Hills Branch of the USPS as a letter carrier after 31 years.

Harry was a Commander of American Legion post 751, 34th District Commander and then a member of Post 980. He earned his 32nd Masonic degree with the Plum Creek/Monroeville Lodge 799. He was also Exalted Ruler of Oakmont Elks Lodge 1668.

Jonathon Micheal Hernandez

It is with great sadness that the family of Jonathon Micheal Hernandez a Chicano of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania announces his sudden and unexpected passing on February 22, 2020 at the age of 29 years old.

Jonathan, more affectionately known as Jai, WompWomp and Pekas is survived by his father Eduardo (Chico) Hernandez; older brother Justin, younger sisters; Alexandra (Allie), Georgina (GiGi), Cameron; his tinn Jackie; all his cousins and his extended family. WompWomp was loved immeasurably and is also survived by his family of choice -  his love Kevin and his soulmate Jesskah.

There are countless people that he touched and loved. His overwhelming, bright personality can never be forgotten. “ I don’t want to make a million dollars, I just want to make a million people smile.”

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the Penn Hebron Garden Club, 237 Jefferson Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Donald A. Schratz

 

Age 87, of Penn Hills, passed away Friday, February 14, 2020, at home in Pittsburgh, PA. Beloved husband of Joan B. Schratz; proud father of Donald A. Jr (Nancy) Schratz of Allison Park, Joan M. of Plum, Linda S (Michael) Baleno of Plum, Jack (Heather) Schratz of Plum, Raymond M. (Anne) of Butler, PA, and Martin M. (Lucy) Schratz of Phoenixville, PA; loving grandfather of 16 and great grandfather of one; son of the late Marcellus M. and Rosalia F. Schratz; brother of the late Sister M. Marcellus, O.S.F., Mildred C. (Bernard) Corbe, Martin L. Schratz, Raymond C. (Mary) Schratz, Regis R. (Anne) Schratz, Brother Mark Schratz, O.P., Mary Jane (Bernard) McGartland and Bertha Mae Schratz.  Donald was an active supporter of both his college and high school alma maters where he was a Lifetime Saint Francis Society Member of St Francis University and a member of the Lasallian Society of Central Catholic High School of Pittsburgh; and a Distinguished Service Award recipient from Tax Executives Institutes (TEI).  He spent 38 years at ALCOA where he made many great friends and met the love of his life, Joan Burnham. He was a member of St Bartholomew Parish since 1957.  His favorite times included vacations with family at the Jersey shore for over 50 years, most spent in Wildwood Crest. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM F.
