Eva Olga Savol

Age 80, died peacefully at Consulate Health Center, Cheswick PA on August 28, 2014.

Daughter of Olga Savol and Jaroslav Julius Savol, survived by her brother Andrej Martin Savol of Washington state. Born in Dolna Stubna, Slovakia, where the Savol family had lived until they were forced to flee during WWII because the Father was

determined that his family would never live under Communism. The family immigrated to Penn Hills under the sponsorship of Turners Dairy. Eva graduated from Penn Hills High School, attended Point Park College, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh becoming a high school German language teacher. She had been a longtime smoker eventually leading to lung cancer. Miraculously, UPMC's chemotherapy eliminated the tumor and she lived cancer free for her last 12 years, having finally stopped smoking.

Her immune system's reaction to the cancer produced severe peripheral neuropathy causing her to be severely disabled for life.  Service was held at Zion Lutheran Church, Penn Hills.

 

William Arndt

Age 86, of Penn Hills, on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Beloved husband of the late Angela; father of Michael (Marian), Jeffrey (Kathy) and the late Joseph Arndt; brother of Howard (Alice) Arndt; also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy L. “Dot”  Seitz

Age 91, Formerly of Dundalk, MD, on Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Leroy G. Seitz; mother of Lance and Brian Seitz; grandmother of Natalie Rowan, Todd and Tim Seitz. Dot was a graduate of Seton Keough High School and a member of the USO during World War II. A Committal service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday September 11, 2014 in Parkwood Cemetery,

Isadore L. “Da Do” “Val” Valenti

Age 100, of Penn Hills, on Monday, August 18, 2014. Beloved husband of Elizabeth; father of Dave (Carol) and Patrick (Renee) Valenti; grandfather of Keira Valenti; brother of Louise Stewart and
Caroline Lesniak.

Isadore was a proud combat veteran in WWII receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He has also recently been acknowledged as the oldest member of the third infantry division. Later in life he became a Penn Hills School teacher. Another achievement was the publishing of his book “Combat Medic”. Val was also a proud Charter member of Ford City VFW post 4843.
