John Merrill Hicks,
Age 75 of Penn Hills, Preceded in death by his father, John Wilfed and Martha (McElhinney) Hicks. Beloved husband of Marlynn Hicks. Loving father of John Mark Hicks, Charles P. Hicks, Mary Martha Hicks, James T. Hicks (Carole), and Joseph G. Hicks. Loving grandfather of Mark Hicks, Shane Hicks, Casey Hicks and Etienne Hicks. In addition to his children, John is survived by his sister, Evelyn Hicks Bentley and by Mary Margaret (Hicks) Galdes, the mother of his five children.
Born September 29, 1937, John was a 1955 graduate of St. Peters High School in McKeesport, Pa., where he graduated at the top of his class. He earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from CMU. He worked for Westinghouse for 40 years, receiving service recognition as well as awarded several patents.
A devoted Catholic, John was a member of St. Gerard Majella Church in Penn Hills. He was a long time member of Al-Anon. While volunteering for 6 years for the Literature Depot Center (LDC), John was instrumental in updating and streamlining the purchasing and procurement procedures. There is much gratitude for John sharing his experience, strength and hope.
