Michael A. Messina

Born February 1933, in Burgettstown, PA passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020. Son of Ralmondo and Calogera Messina, immigrants from Sicily, Italy. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Peter J. Messina. Michael was a graduate of Central Catholic high school in 1951, he then attended Duquesne University and later the school of St. Philip Neri, Haverhill, MA where he studied classes of languages, Latin and Greeks. He received a Liberal Arts degree from St. Francis University in Loretto, PA. He also attended St. Vincent Seminary and studied Theology. Mr. Messina served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Mr. Messina was a member of St. John Fisher Parish, Churchill. He worked in various sales positions for 6 years, then worked as a taxi driver for Yellow Cab for 26 years. Evelyn A. Dexter

Age 85, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020. Beloved wife of the late Frederick S. Dexter; mother of Susan (Bruce) Kvarta, Clark (Renee) Dexter; grandmother of Kristina and Adam Kvarta; sister of Joan Rutkowski and the late George Felege. Evelyn was an ICU nurse at Braddock Hospital, she loved to play bridge and golf. James C.” Jim” Dempsey

Age 77, of Plum, passed away June 12, 2020 at Concordia of Fox Chapel. Left behind to cherish his memory includes his devoted wife, Darlene L. (Lilja) of 57 years; children, James M. (Jeanine) and Scott D. (Candi); grandchildren Dylan, Drake, Chandler and Casey.  Jim was fortunate to have strong family bonds; including sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, church family and friends. Jim was born and grew up in East Liberty where he met and ultimately married the girl next door. Jim later moved to Penn Hills where he raised his family. Jim was a very hard worker. He worked for Sears, Roebuck & Co. for 33 years including automotive and shipping/receiving departments. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Concordia of Fox Chapel for their compassionate and dedicated care.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s honor to Mount Hope Community Presbyterian Church, 12106 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills, PA 15235.

Barbara J. Maxwell

Age 88, of Penn Hills, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. Preceded in death by former husband Robert Maxwell, Jr.; beloved mother of David, Sr. (Michele), Craig, and Kenneth Maxwell; cherished grandmother of Sara Hurley, David Jr. (MJ), Lacey, Brittany, and Benjamin Maxwell; adored great-grandmother of Brandon, Brenna, Aubrey, and Matthew. Martin G. “Marty” Holtman

Age 65, of the North Side formerly of Penn Hills, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 2, 2020. Son of the late Donald and Glorianna Holtman; brother of Donna (Dennis) Penrose, Sandra (John) Steele, Karen (Tony) Testa and the late Phyllis (surviving Michael) Gentile; uncle of Joe, Sissy, Amanda, Hannah, Robin, Kelly, Anthony, Nick, Stephanie, Samantha; also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews. Marty loved sports, horse racing and gambling. He worked at the post office where he found many friendships and  had many friends from the North Side.
