Joseph “Joey” C. Proviano

Age 21, of Pleasant Hills, passed away Friday, March 8, 2019.  Beloved son of Christine (Fiancé Gary Beatty) and the late Charles F. Proviano; brother of Anna and Hanna Bair, Jeremy Schumacher, Angelica, Charles, Jr., Chelsea, Crystal and Chandler Proviano and the late Alexis Bair and Shane Proviano; grandson of Dolores (the late Arthur) Proviano; close family friends with Walker Ganas and Renee Raymond. Ralph F. DeFilippo

Age 79, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019.  He was currently living within the St. Barnabas Communities in Gibsonia, but was formerly a resident of both Churchill and Penn Hills.  He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Cook), father of Ralph A. (Tracey) DeFilippo and Michael A. (Christine) DeFilippo.  He was the extremely proud grandfather of Catherine, Dominic, Gabriella, Isabella, Salvatore, and Mia Angelina and step-father of Laura, John, and Holly Kay,  He will be missed by cousins, Elaine, Patricia, and Roberta, along with many other cousins, family, and friends.  Everyone who knew Ralph will also miss his beautiful singing voice.   After serving his country in the USN, he worked as a barber before finding his perfect job as a Maintenance Mechanic with the USPS, retiring in 2001.   Ralph was a Master Gardener, and a model train enthusiast who also especially loved all things "Christmas."   He was truly one of the world's great guys.  As an expression of sympathy, please remember Ralph with the flowers he loved or a contribution to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

Friends and Family will be received at the William F. Gross Funeral Home, 11735 Frankstown Road (at Rodi Road) in Penn Hills on Thursday, March 7, 6-8 p.m and Friday, March 8, 3-8 p.m..  A celebration of Ralph's life will be held on Saturday, March 9, at 11:00 AM also at the William F. Gross Funeral Home.

 

 

James “Jim” H. Russo

Age 86, of Plum, formerly of Penn Hills, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019. Beloved husband of 61 years to Eleanor (Jonnotti); father of James C. (Mary Lynn) Russo, Rick (Susie) Russo, Gina (Joseph) Sonafelt, and Vincent Russo; grandfather of Antonette, Marissa, John, Joseph, Jr., Emma, Isabella, and Sheridan; brother of Lucille Russo, Carmen Michael Russo, Dolores Moore, and the late Frank Russo, Gloria Bisceglia, and Joseph Russo.

James was proud to be a drill sergeant in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and operator of J. Rick Excavating Company for over 55 years out the Penn Hills area. He was a former member of the Plum Planning Commission and a proud 1952 graduate of “Seneca” Penn Hills High School where he played high school football.

Nora G. Goetz

Age 72, of Wilkins Twp, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 3, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Gary R. Goetz, Sr.; mother of Gary R. Goetz, Jr.; sister of Daniel Matthew (Sheila) Gittings.

Nora had a strong passion for education and mission work. She started off as an educator for Gateway and ended her teaching career at St. Edmunds Academy. Her specific mission work was focused in Malawi, Africa. She was a lifetime and very active member of Beulah Church.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Beulah Presbytarian Church, 2500 McCrady Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 at 10:30 a.m. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. James “Jim” Indovina

Of Export, formerly of Penn Hills, suddenly passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019. Beloved father of Laura (Bob) Bendtsen, Debra (Ron) Akerley and Amy (Dom) Pollaro; loving and adoring grandfather of Miranda and Alex Akerley, Jimmy and Bella Bendtsen, Bailey, Aubrey and Mia Pollaro. His true pride and passion laid within his grandchildren and had a deep love for his daughters and their families. To know Jim was to love him and he will be greatly missed.
