Michael A. Ventrone

Age 63, of Washington Township formerly of Penn Hills, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020. Beloved husband of Cindy; father of Amanda (David) Staymates; grandfather of Angelina Staymates; son of the late Michael and Frances Ventrone; brother-in-law of Elizabeth Small; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mike was a member of Rosedale and Vandergrift Sportsman’s Clubs.

Donald "Babe" Giordano

Passed away Monday, August 10, 2020. Don was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on January 12, 1939. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia Ann Chieppa Giordano; children Donna (Charles) Moesta, Paula (Patrick) Kocen; sister Kathleen Viselli; four grandchildren, Rachel Smeigh, Nathan Smeigh, Kiley (Andrew) Rogan, Kegan (Anastasia) Moesta; loving brother-in-law Joseph P. Chieppa; and sister-in-law Nikki Giordano; also nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don grew up in the Brushton area of Pittsburgh. He attended Crescent School, Baxter, Westinghouse, and graduated from Penn Hills Senior High School in 1956.

Shortly after graduation Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served two years active duty at MCAS, Kaneohe, Hawaii and four years in reserve. Don is a lifetime member of AMVETS Post 85, White Valley, Export, PA, and a member of American Legion, Post 0274, Fort Myers, FL.

After discharge from active duty, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Duquesne University and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh.

He taught in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for thirty-two years starting at Crescent School and finishing at Grandview Elementary where he retired.

Don loved the outdoors. He had a camp in Brookville, PA. He hunted and fished in Elk County, and backpacked in Alaska. He and Pat loved traveling and settled in Fort Myers, FL.

James P. Cannon

Age 71, of Kennedy Township, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Beloved husband of Sandy; father of Jennifer (Robert) Guerrera; grandfather of Stella and Mara; son of the late Thomas and Rita Cannon; brother of Sister Kathleen OP, Thomas Jr. (Mary), Daniel, Paul (Sondra), Mimi, Colleen (Rege) O’Hara, Patrick (Maria), Susan (Mark) Reyer, and the late Kevin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Michael Ventrone

Age 97, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Husband of the late Frances Ventrone, father of Michael A. (Cindy) Ventrone, grandfather to Amanda (David) Staymates, and great-grandfather to Angelina Staymates. Mike treasured all his many nieces and nephews, especially Michael (Erin) DeLeonibus, whom he had the privilege of watching grow up right next door.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II, where he survived Normandy and returned home to marry Frances. Later he was a subcontractor with The Pittsburgh Press. He retired from a supervisory position at the Monroeville Mall Food Court at 89 years of age. Loved by all, Mike was a quiet man who never met a stranger. He was known for his dry wit, devotion to family, and easy going attitude. Due to COVID-19 service and interment will be private. Arrangements by William F. Gross Funeral Home Ltd.

 

Gregory T. Somerville

Age 64, of Penn Hills, died suddenly on Monday, July 20, 2020. He was born to the late Agnes and John Somerville on January 4, 1956 in Pittsburgh. He is survived by loving partner, Linda Bonacci; father of Gregory “JR” Somerville; step-father of Kelly Moore; step-grandfather of Kaitlyn and Cameron Moore; brother of John Somerville and Faith Wilson; preceded in death by parents Agnes and John.

Gregory was a veteran of the US Navy and owner of S&S Home and Building Services. A forever optimist, he found joy in the small things in life. He loved his Harley and spending good times with friends and family. Unapologetically himself, his happy go lucky character embraced living each day to the fullest. Most of all, he wholeheartedly loved his family. His biggest pride and joy was celebrating JR’s many accomplishments and watching him become the beautiful person he is today.
