Many in the QA profession know Jeff Otte as a member of the American Society for Quality, where he served the Pittsburgh Section in various capacities for 30 years. Jeff also taught the Certified Quality Manager of Organizational Excellence course for 22 years.

He owned Otte Training and Consulting for over 15 years. However, throughout his career he was employed by Westinghouse R&D, Halliburton NUS, Neville Chemical and USS.  Jeff spent the final years of his career with the good people of Extrel CMS, where he served as the companies Quality, Safety and Compliance Manager.  We will be forever grateful to our Extrel Family. They are a great company and wonderful people.

Jeff was amazingly brilliant and subtly hilarious. He was always patient and kind. He was a scientist, a gardener, a wine maker, an educator, a coin collector, and a good friend to all who knew him.  He will be remembered for his gentle spirit and devotion to his family, who always came first.

Jeff and Sandy met at 17, when he tutored her in geometry. Shortly thereafter, they became high school sweethearts and have been together for more than 40 years.

As a father, Jeff was endlessly supportive, encouraging, and he was always present.  Jeff and Carly shared the same sense of humor, and his whit is a part of him that she will always carry with her.

The Ottes’ often entertained friends and family each year with a wine tasting Event Under the Tent at their home, for the tapping of Jeff’s wine in the Spring. In keeping with that tradition, Sandy and Carly will host a celebration of Jeff’s life when this years wine is ready in May. Details will be announced at a later date.
