It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, confidant and best friend Mary Lois Verrilla, aged 85.  Mom lost her battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer and heart failure on February 9, 2021 in the comfort and care of Concordia Lutheran Services, Cabot, PA.

The family would like to thank the remarkable, compassionate caregivers who cared for Mom while she continued to fight her battle.  Sadly the battle was too much and although always a fighter, Mom was peacefully called home.

Mom was a devout Catholic who put her faith in God.  She was one of the best cooks always making enough (Italian and comfort) food for an army.  You never left hungry or without leftovers.  She loved gardening which was showcased by her green thumb and eye for detail.

She was Pittsburgh to all, and known as the Lady Who Paints Pittsburgh.  A talented Pittsburgh Water Color Artist.  Her history of Pittsburgh will live on and remain showcased far and wide.  She shared her talent with many artists, institutions and people in Pittsburgh and around the country.

Mom will be missed immensely by her many cousins, especially Marianna Fiori who was her “Thelma” to her “Louise”, “ying and yang”, “partner in crime”.  Never was a dull moment when the two ventured out together.  The laughs and stories of their many all-day shopping trips, in one store; casino ventures, and bus trips.  Those memories will live on forever.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband of 50 plus years, Edward Verrilla and her beautiful sister Dorothy Jean Fratangelo.  Mom is survived by her sons Eddie (Deborah, lovingly referred by Mom as PITA); Ron (Fiancé, Alicia); her beautiful daughter Marlo Verrilla, who lovingly cared for Mom until her last breath, and her beautiful grandsons, Spencer and James Verrilla.

In lieu of Flowers, contributions can be made to some of Mom’s favorite places:  The Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Pittsburgh; The Pittsburgh Watercolor Society; Heinz History Center.  Per Mom’s wishes, there will be no viewing.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish St. Bartholomew Church 111 Erhardt Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, Friday, February 12, 2021 at 10 a.m.

A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at a future date.
